What makes Sophistakatz events so special?
We offer a very simple and fun way for you to enjoy meeting other people - people who would like to meet someone like you. Sophistakatz Events are a new concept in meeting others that has no exact equal. Sophistakatz Events have also developed a unique method for attracting like-minded people through our special group event profiles. Each of these profiles describes a topic of popular interest which will have broad appeal to the majority of our members.
People tend to be more relaxed and feel comfortable being themselves in a natural setting in the company of other people.
Why do Sophistakatz Events dinners have 6 people?
Research and experience has shown that six is the optimal number of people for a Sophistakatz Events dining event.
A large group event can feel overwhelming, while an intimate dinner for 2 may feel too much like a blind date. With groups of 6 there are enough people and personalities to keep the evening interesting and it is still small enough that everyone feels included.
With a Sophistakatz Events table set for six people, everyone has an opportunity to interact with everyone else.
For this reason we normally arrange dinners for groups of 6 however occasionally we may operate events for larger or small numbers of people if specially requested by a member, such as custom events or if there is a last-minute cancellation and we are unable to find a substitute.
What happens when I join Sophistakatz?
As soon as you register and become a member of Sophistakatz Events you will be eligible to attend any Sophistakatz Events event.
You can reserve a place at a Sophistakatz event by going to the calendar section of the Sophistakatz Events website, select your preferred event, register your details and pay the appropriate event fee to make your reservation.
You then arrive at the venue on time and simply enjoy good fun in the company of other like minded people. See also: How Does it Work?
How much does it cost?
We have two forms of membership. The annual cost for singles is $120 and for couples/families $220. There is then an event booking fee, currently set at $25 for singles or $35 for couples or families unless otherwise noted.
How do I pay for event & membership fees?
Sophistakatz Events accepts payment for membership and event fees using credit or debit cards such as Visa, or MasterCard. When you wish to reserve your place online from the events page simply click the book now button next to the event of your choice and following the directions to complete your reservation. You may also reserve events over the phone by calling (08) 9379 3503 at any time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and leave a message or email info@sophistakatz.com.au (Please do not send your credit card details via email, just the Event Code). When reserving a space this way you may send in a cheque or money order prior to the event. See also: Is it safe to use my credit/debit card to pay for events?
Sophistakatz Events can also accept payment by cheque or money order. Payments must be received well in advance of the event as events often fill quickly and reservations cannot be confirmed until funds are cleared. To avoid missing out on a reservation, you may pre-pay for events by purchasing Event Credits in your member record which you may use at any time in the future. The reservation process using Event Credits is the same as for a credit/debit card payment, however your reservation will be accepted without the need to enter any card details.
How oftend do I have to go?
There is no minimum or maximum attendance requirement. Most members will choose to attend at least one or two events per month. You have the freedom to choose how often you would like to attend based upon your availability and interest. Naturally the more often you attend, the more people you will meet and the greater the chance of meeting someone special. If you attend just one dinner per month then you would meet 60 new people per year!!
Can I bring a friend?
The benefit of attending a Sophistakatz Events is the opportunity of meeting new people. Experience shows that the best social interactions occurs when people at an event meet for the first time. We therefore usually allocate seats at each table to people who are new to each other.
Can I register on the Web to be a Sophistakatz Events member?
Sophistakatz Events has a range of convenient choices to make it easy to register. The Web is the fastest and most convenient way for many people to register, however Sophistakatz Events can also accept registrations using email (Registrations@sophistakatz.com.au) or over the telephone. Who may join Sophistakatz Events?
Almost anyone over the age of 18 can join Sophistakatz Events and participate in events. There are no eligibility criteria other than asking our members to observe the Sophistakatz Events 'Code of Conduct', which is also detailed in the Sophistakatz Events Terms & Conditions.
The most important quality that will ensure your enjoyment of a Sophistakatz Event is not to create expectations or build any preconceptions. You will find that if you and your fellow participants simply approach your Sophistakatz Events experience as just going out to enjoy a fun event or meal, to meet some new people, everyone will be far more relaxed. How do the event themes work?

Sophistakatz Events has undertaken research into different methods of bringing like-minded people together. What we have found is that group events are a big hit and the custom events bring people together who have a common interest.

Many factors affect the 'chemistry' of successful group dynamics and compatibility between people. It is widely understood and recognized that there is no method which can always ensure a perfect match of individuals and Sophistakatz Events responsibly does not pretend to offer this.

Another factor which contributes to the success of Sophistakatz Events is that members usually do not have the anxiety that is often present with many of the 'computer-matched' services that unrealistically promise a 'perfect match'. These generally raise people's expectations, which, when not realised, leads to disappointment. Members who attend Sophistakatz Events are more natural, feel relaxed, and attend knowing that they can expect an enjoyable meal or event with interesting company and can just be themselves. What happens next really is up to you.

Why didn't you ask me for my income, education, occupation etc?

Sophistakatz Events is an exclusive social club NOT an introduction service. As such, it is not necessary for us to pry into our members private details which are not relevant for this kind of service. Sophistakatz Events naturally attracts a certain calibre of person who is generally a successful professional, who appreciates fine dining in quality restaurants, organised events of different kinds and enjoys meeting new people and is of sufficient means not to be overly concerned by meal prices and events fees. In this way, Sophistakatz Events filters-out those who would not be attracted to, or feel comfortable with this kind of experience.

One would also question the value of questionnaires that ask for income, education, occupation and other private details. It is widely known that some people may feel compelled to provide details they think might be regarded as more attractive, while others may be put off joining an organization altogether because of its elitist attitude. Secondly, does a person necessarily have to be a CEO and have a PhD in order to qualify as an attractive and charming companion or friend? And who is to say that a person may not already be on a journey to there anyway?

How do I reserve a place at events?

Reserving a place at events can be done quickly, simply and conveniently via the web, phone (08) 9379 3603 and email (Reservations@sophistakatz.com.au). The fastest and easiest way is on the http://www.sophistakatz.com.au website which is available 24/7.
- First click the 'Calendar’ button which will open up the page of current Sophistakatz Events and take you through the reservation process with a few simple steps from start to finish:
- START. - Go to the Calendar and select your preferred event by clicking on the Event listed under the date. To reserve your place at the event your have selected, click on the email icon that says Register for this Event.
- REGISTER FOR EVENT. - Once you have clicked on Register for this Event, you need to include your Username, Password and Date of Birth to authenticate your identity. If you forget your username/password you can request a reminder be sent to you via email.
- CONFIRMATION. - Sophistakatz Events will email you with the details of the event plus a page to make your reservation payment.
- PAYMENT. - Click on the link in the email to make your secure PayPal payment page where you may enter your credit or debit card details and then click the 'Make Payment' button.
- PAYMENT CONFIRMATION. Once payment has been processed by PayPal you will be taken to a 'Thank you' page.
- FINISH. Your reservation is now complete. For your security and assurance, you will also receive a separate email from PayPal that contains your 'e-receipt' for payment.
You will also receive a further Event Confirmation email from Sophistakatz Events prior to the event.
If you have been issued with an event credit for a rescheduled event, follow the same steps above except we will automatically reserve your place without charge after recognising your unique identity.

Do I have to reserve a place online?
Making a reservation online is quick, easy, secure and convenient and you can do this any time 24 hours a day. However you can also reserve a place for a Sophistakatz Events event by telephone if you prefer.
Simply follow these steps:
a. Dial (08) 9379 3503 to call Sophistakatz Events
Once your reservation has been processed you will receive an email confirming your reservation, also a Sophistakatz Events Team Member will phone you to confirm 24 hours before the event.
Please note that telephone reservations are only processed during office hours and those events may fill in the meantime by members who use the online reservation system. To avoid missing out, we recommend the use of online reservations which is the fastest way to make a booking.

How will I find or recognise the other diners?
You don't need to; just ask the maître d' or receptionist at the restaurant for the table booked under the reservation name given to you by Sophistakatz Events. To ensure privacy and discretion, each Sophistakatz Events event is booked under a different name and in most cases the venue and staff are unaware the event is arranged by Sophistakatz Events. 24-48 hours before the event you will receive an Event Confirmation email which will include full particulars of your event.
This email will contain:
- the name the table is reserved under
- the restaurant/venue address and phone number
- description of the cuisine and average menu prices a map of the area
- information on public transport, taxis and parking
- a weather forecast
- a list of the first names of your fellow diners as well as their pastimes & interests and personal descriptions.
The list of pastimes & interests and personal descriptions allows Sophistakatz Events to 'virtually introduce' all the diners to each other so that you are pre-acquainted with one another. It also helps to 'break the ice' prior to meeting someone new for the first time.

Is the meal price included in the Sophistakatz Events fee?
Because different people have different tastes, appetites and preferences, our members consider it fairer if they are given total freedom of choice from the restaurant menu. So if you are on a diet, on a budget or would like to really enjoy all the courses, you won't be limited by a set-menu or feel you haven't been given value for money if the meal price was fixed and included.
Unless otherwise stated, meal prices are not normally included in the event fee. The best way is if you go to an ATM prior to the event and pay the host or hostess for your portion of the bill at the end of the evening. All Sophistakatz Events listed restaurants will either give each diner a separate itemised bill for their meal and beverages, provide a split meal and beverage bill for the table, or a single itemised table bill which each member can settle directly with the restaurant after the meal in the usual manner.
I have a special dietary requirement/I am a vegetarian, can I get a meal that suits me?
All Sophistakatz Events venues have been selected because of their high standards of food and service as well as their flexibility with menu choices. Simply tell the waiter when ordering that you have a special dietary requirement or would like a specially prepared meal. If you have a particularly unusual dietary request, we recommend that you call the restaurant in advance and inform them of your requirements.

The type of cuisine will vary and cover different regions and styles of gastronomic experience, however all Sophistakatz Events venues will offer alternative choices for members who have special dietary requirements. We are confident that once Sophistakatz Events members experience the joy of dining with interesting people and enjoying fine cuisine they will want to come again. For this reason, Sophistakatz Events will strive to offer our members a different restaurant or venue style on each occasion.

How are Sophistakatz Events restaurants selected?
Sophistakatz Events has set high standards for its restaurants and maintains a policy of continuous review and evaluation. The criteria for selection are: quality of service, cleanliness, ambiance/atmosphere, flexibility with menus (special dietary needs) and proximity to transport.

Can I go to a restaurant of my choice?
Yes, absolutely! Sophistakatz Events offers a special and unique Custom Event service where you can design any aspect of your event from the restaurant, to the date/time, age range of your fellow diners, event themes etc. There is no extra charge for this service where Sophistakatz Events acts as your 'virtual secretary' organising a social function according to your wishes and taste.

What happens if I don't attend an event reserved for me?
Sophistakatz Events understands that for busy professional people, life can be hectic and sometimes it is difficult to keep to appointments. However, Sophistakatz Events members must realise that the benefit from attending Sophistakatz Events is the opportunity to meet five other people and to achieve balance in your life. Therefore, we ask that members, who are unable to attend an event for whatever reason, please provide us with sufficient notice so that we can invite another suitable member.
We would like to remind members that they must give at least 3 clear working days notice of event cancellation in order to give us sufficient time to invite another member. Provided that at least 3 full days notice is given, you will receive a special event Credit Code so you may reserve a future alternative event using the event fee already paid. Where less than 3 days notice is given, we can also accept a substitute diner, referred by you, so that your event fee will not be forfeited.
To discourage those very few people who may not be as considerate of their fellow diners as they should be, Sophistakatz Events will not reimburse the booking fee for no-shows or for very late notice of non-attendance.

What should I wear to a Sophistakatz Events event?
Smart casual attire would be suitable for most Sophistakatz Events. Many busy people come straight from the office or place of work. Unless specifically stated, Sophistakatz Events rarely require any formal dress code; however it is a fact of life that 'books are often judged by their cover'. We recommend Sophistakatz Events members should therefore dress appropriately, smart casual will usually suffice.

Can I arrange to contact people I met at a Sophistakatz Events dinner event afterwards?
The role of Sophistakatz Events is to provide a pleasant, civilised and consistent social experience for people to make friends and network. It is entirely up to you if you would like to meet your fellow diners after a Sophistakatz Events; after all, that is one of the attractions of attending! However we do ask that you observe the usual, sensible precautions you would normally take when meeting someone for the first time.

What if I'm not available for a scheduled event or I want to try something different?
Sophistakatz Events now offers members a unique and special Custom Event service where you can design any aspect of an event of your choosing! You could simply nominate a preferred date and time, or a particular favourite restaurant or cuisine, an event theme, age range or a combination of these. Then leave it to the friendly team at Sophistakatz Events to do the organising for you. We act as your 'virtual social secretary'!

What if the event is full or waitlisted?
The Sophistakatz Events online reservation system will automatically label an event 'reserve list' once all places have been filled. There is no charge to be waitlisted and you are only obliged to pay the event fee if you decide to accept an invitation.
Apart from the opportunity of being offered a place for an event if a vacancy occurs, if we have sufficient demand for an event we may create an additional new event on the same date and time, normally at a different venue, but with a similar cuisine/price range and in the same area.
If the event is listed as 'full' it is usually because it is too close to the event time or the event has already occurred.

What are the different reservation options?
Sophistakatz Events has developed a choice of flexible methods to allow members to participate in Sophistakatz Events - each specially designed to suit the different needs of our members.
a) Regular Reservation:
On the 'Events List' page, click the button to request and pay for a reservation at an open event. This is the usual way members reserve places at Sophistakatz Events.
b) Waitlist Reservation:
If an event is displaying "Full (reserve list Accepted)", Members can still click the reserve button to request to be put on the waitlist. Sophistakatz Events will then contact waitlisted members, as a priority, to offer them a place should a vacancy occur. Another benefit of requesting a waitlist is that we monitor the number of waitlisted members and if there are sufficient numbers we will create an additional event at the same or similar venue and offer this to the waitlisted members. There is no obligation to accept a waitlist invitation and there is no extra charge for this special service.
c) Pre-Allocation Reservation:
Members can request Sophistakatz Events to pre-allocate a reservation for them for the next available event prior to its listing. This method is proving quite popular as more and more members opt for this which is why many of our sought-after events fill so quickly. There is no extra charge for this special service.
d) Custom Event Reservation:
Members can request Sophistakatz Events to create an event of their choice by nominating a date, time, venue, theme, etc (almost anything within reason) and Sophistakatz Events will take care of all the arrangements for them. There is no extra charge for this special service.

What about my privacy?
At all times your personal details remain confidential, no other Sophistakatz Events member will be informed of your identity or contact information. We recommend our Sophistakatz Events members should only reveal their first name when meeting someone new. The restaurant table will be booked in a name that is independent of any of the Sophistakatz Events diners to ensure discretion and privacy. You will be advised of the table reservation 'name' when we send you your reservation confirmation email. If you would like to meet another diner again and you did not get a chance at the event to exchange info, you can email us. Once we have emailed the other party and received their written permission to release their details, only then would they be passed on.

What about my personal security?
At Sophistakatz Events we take personal security and safety seriously, and we ask that our members do so as well. Regrettably, these days personal security is becoming more and more the responsibility of the individual, however there are simple precautions you can take which can ensure that your safety and security are not compromised.
Sophistakatz Events are normally hosted at well-known restaurants and venues that are usually close to public transport and/or parking. Being a public place populated with lots of people makes Sophistakatz Events inherently safe and you will of course be in the company of others.
As with any initial meeting with people you meet for the first time, Sophistakatz Events recommends that you observe the normal sensible precautions which you should follow at any other similar meeting or social occasion:
It is not advisable to give other people your full name; we recommend you use your first name initially.
Don't give people you meet for the first time your home address or telephone number (until you are well acquainted with them.)
It is inadvisable to accept a lift or even be escorted by people you meet for the first time, make sure you walk in well lit areas in the company of larger groups of people.
It is a good idea to arrange a taxi if you prefer. Sophistakatz Events has listed several taxi companies where you can pre-book if you so desire.
It is a good idea to tell someone you trust where you are going and what time you expect to be home.
- If you have a mobile phone, take one with you (naturally, it is polite to switch it off during your meal or set it to 'silent mode').
- If you want to keep in touch with a fellow Sophistakatz Events diner, we recommend you use an online email address initially.

Sophistakatz Events is a responsible company that respects the privacy and security of its members. Sophistakatz Events maintains an anti-spam policy and all communications from Sophistakatz Events are sent on the basis of opt-in permissions. We will only pass on personal particulars to any third parties where you have given your consent.

Is it safe to use my credit/debit card to pay for events?
An online credit/debit card transaction with Sophistakatz Events is probably more secure than a card transaction in a shop, as the information transmitted online is highly encrypted and digitally-signed.
